General William Booth was Not a Freemason!?!

Icon

There seems to be no evidence that General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was a Freemason.

Clarification

I appreciate those of you that have left comments. I do want to clarify that this blog is not saying that Booth had no affiliations with Freemasons. There is a distinct difference between knowing Freemasons, and entering into the rituals and proclamations that are performed in the society.  Association should not be considered or equated with Masonic membership. Also, Freemasons have built numerous buildings (including many churches) around the world. Entering into these buildings does not equate to membership. If you know of some evidence that can be researched and validated, please leave a comment.

There have been several William Booths that have held Masonic Lodge membership. However, upon investigation, these men are not the founder of the Salvation Army. Additionally, there seems to be no evidence that William Booth (the founder of the Salvation Army) received a Masonic burial.

Salvation Army Website Declares No Evidence

Salvation Army Website Declares No Evidence
Firstly, it should be noted that the Salvation Army website states that there doesn’t seem to be any evidence for William Booth being a Freemason:
-“There seems to be no evidence to support the statement made on some masonic websites that William Booth was a freemason.”

I have taken note that there are numerous websites that list General William Booth as a Freemason. However, none of the websites that I have come across substantiate that claim with evidence. One web administrator wrote me back, commenting that they had simply copied the list from another site.
If Booth was a Mason, then there should be some record of it held by a lodge. If there is a lodge that claims to have his paperwork, then I would like to examine it. So far, none have surfaced.
All that exists, so far, is a rumor that Booth was a Freemason. This rumor has been regurgitated so many times that some are taking as truth without investigation. I may have a clue as to how this rumor came to be.
